Flea drops for animals have canine formulations which can be lethal for the cats. So, you literally can’t use dog flea drops directly to cats unless they are specially formulated for both dogs and cats.

Cats are more sensitive to the ingredients of flea drops. Pyrethrin, citrus extracts, Organophosphates, etc. of flea drops are good to go on dogs’ skin. If a drop contains these ingredients lesser, then you can use the flea drop on cats. Otherwise, the result will be different.
